Whoever said Father Knows Best was full of shit. Many men don’t know anything when we become a dad for the first time, and are forced to learn the hard way. It’s the transition from dude to dad that confuses most of us, and that’s what we lovingly call, the Dad Shift. One day you’re mostly worried about when you’re getting your next beer, and the next, it’s all about some little person that you didn’t even know nine months ago. WTF? But hey, don’t screw it up, because you will be judged by all those other perfect parents at the zoo. Wait, how did you even get to the zoo? Lucky for you, you’ve stumbled upon our post that discusses the dad shift launch, because that means you’re here early. Well done.
After having our first son, and finally venturing out to events with him, I was baffled by all these other guys who seemed to have it all figured out. They all appeared to know exactly what to do, and how to adapt to this shift. They had the dad backpack on, cargo shorts with wipes in the side pocket, and about five stains on their shirt that they didn’t appear to even notice. They didn’t care what they looked like, or how the rest of the world perceived their dadness (sadness). Little did I know, most of them had older kids, and had already been through the transition. They were beaten down by their older child(ren), and the lowercase man that I saw before me was the result.
That’s when it hit me. Why isn’t there a place where I can go to share my experiences, and give others a place to do the same? I wanted a place to help newbies, and vets alike, get through this dad shift together. A community of people and content dedicate to the dad shift, where many of us get lost, and are too stubborn to ask for directions. That, my fellow wonderer, is how The Dad Shift was born. It was a lot less painful than the nine months my wife put in for each kid, but painful nonetheless. We’re here to share some stories, advice, deals, and hopefully a few laughs to help make your transition from dude to dad a little easier. Because, let’s be honest, it’s not going to be easy, but maybe we can all survive it together…maybe.
We are always looking for a new perspective on the dad shift. So, if you have ideas about topics you would like covered, or would like to contribute yourself, please drop us a note. We would love to hear from you.
Welcome to the Dad Shift! Good luck surviving the transforming from dude to dad. You’re going to need it.
